Albuquerque Day Trips: Tent Rocks National Monument
Formed seven million years ago during a long stretch of volcanic activity that altered the Southwestern landscape, Tent Rocks National Monument rests halfway between Santa Fe (40 miles) and Albuquerque (55 miles). Visitors with a keen eye may discover bits of black volcanic glass called "Apaches' Tears" scattered on the dusty ground surrounding the dramatic tee-pee like structures.
